Thomas J. and Barbara J. Weadock Scholarship

weadock_color-photoOftentimes, stress and strain can be experienced by individuals when facing the high cost of higher education. In order to help provide assistance to highly-motivated students seeking post-secondary education, Tom and Barbara Weadock have established the Thomas J. and Barbara J. Weadock Scholarship. This scholarship will support students attending Michigan State University or Saginaw Valley State University. The Thomas J. and Barbara J. Weadock scholarship is especially interested in assisting students that are likely to return to the Great Lakes Bay Region following graduation to work and live.

Throughout their lives, Tom and Barbara have given back to the greater Saginaw community over the years by volunteering their time with many area nonprofit organizations. Tom has lived in Saginaw all his life. He completed a certificate program in insurance and real estate from Michigan State University after graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Saginaw in 1953. Barbara attended St. Mary’s High School as well, also graduating in 1953.

Tom spent 44 years as an independent property and casualty insurance agent – the last 10 years of which were with Saginaw Bay Underwriters. Tom then worked for 13 years in a marketing role for Gardy Financial Advisors.

Barbara’s family returned to Saginaw from Chicago when she was in the 7thgrade. After high school, Barbara received Bachelor and Master Degrees from Michigan State University. She taught elementary school in suburban Detroit, East Lansing, and Saginaw Public Schools during her teaching career. After retiring from teaching, Barbara served as the director of the READ Program for 13 years.

Tom and Barbara are grateful and proud of the services that Saginaw Community Foundation performs on behalf of the citizens of this area and have full confidence that the Foundation will continue to administer our scholarship as directed.
