Nick Andros Music Scholarship

The Nick Andros Music Scholarship was established by his family and friends in remembrance of the creative energy and passion for living that embodied the too-short life of this talented individual. The recipient of this scholarship will be the person who best exemplifies Nick’s spirit of positive inspiration and ambition.

Nick graduated from Heritage High School in 1990 and went on to earn a philosophy degree from Western Michigan University. Nick’s charismatic personality made him welcome and loved in many different circles. Growing up, he was an avid athlete, excelling at baseball, basketball, soccer and tennis. However, he found his true identity in the world of music.

Nick burst onto the Saginaw music scene with his first band, The Garden Grey, and discovered that his greatest talent was entertaining people. His charisma and vitality drew people into the energy he created every time he took the stage. In a span of 10 years, he developed his skills both in playing guitar and composing songs. In February 2001, Nick’s band, Poke, released Absent, a CD featuring 10 songs, all of which were written or co-written by Nick. For these efforts, he was named Best Songwriter in the Review Magazine’s 2001 Music Awards.

As a friend, Nick was loyal and supportive; as a family member, loving and generous; and as a musician, gifted and dedicated. To Nick, the best way of measuring a persons success was not by looking at the awards and honors one may have received, but by examining the type of person one was. By this definition, Nick was truly successful in every aspect of his life. Through this scholarship, he and his work will always be remembered.
