Junior League of Saginaw Valley Awarding Funds

The Junior League of Saginaw Valley (JLSV) is currently accepting enabling fund applications for projects focused on Children’s Health & Wellness. Applications are accepted in an ongoing process throughout the year.

The JLSV distributes enabling funds annually within the Great Lakes Bay Region to programs that provide a service within the community that are aligned with the mission and purpose of the Junior League, and whose focus is primarily attuned towards the needs of women and/or children.  In the past 10 years, nearly $13,000 has been awarded to various community organizations, including The Girl Scouts of Mitten Bay, Saginaw YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, and the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum.

Last year’s recipients, Major Chords for Minors and the Emmaus House “Homes of Hope”, were each granted $1,000 at the Annual Meeting of the JLSV, held at Horizons Conference Center, on May 16, 2012. John Vowell of Major Chords for Minors attended the meeting where he thanked the league for its donation and spoke about the program which offers piano and guitar lessons for children who might not otherwise have means to do so. The program has 42 students, with 44 more on a waiting list. Sister Marietta of Emmaus House also thanked the league for the donation, and indicated that since the labor was performed by volunteers, the money went much further than it otherwise would have.

The JLSV is committed to improving the community, and is happy to support and fund organizations like Major Chords for Minors and the Emmaus House who are likewise dedicated to making the Great Lakes Bay Region a better place. The current focus of the JLSV is the promotion of Children’s Health and Wellness and organizations working towards that goal as well will be given special consideration.
