On Feb. 21, 2014, Reneé Johnston, president and CEO of Saginaw Community Foundation was appointed to the State of Michigan Board of Medicine by Gov. Rick Snyder.
“It is truly an honor to be selected amongst such an elite group of professionals,” said Johnston. “Serving on the state Board of Medicine will be an amazing experience and I look forward to interacting with some talented individuals from across the state. I am proud to represent the Great Lakes Bay Region.”
The 19-member board is responsible for the examination, regulation, licensing and registration of physicians and surgeons, and for the discipline of licensees who have violated the Michigan Public Health Code. The board, located within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, oversees the practice of more than 36,000 licensed physicians. Voting members of the Board consist of 10 medical doctors, one physician’s assistant and eight public members. Each board member serves a four-year term.
Johnston is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Saginaw Valley, is a Ruby Award recipient, and was named the Outstanding Fundraising Executive of the Year by the Mid-Michigan Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Johnston holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Alma College and a degree from Valparaiso University School of Law. She will represent the general public on the Board of Medicine.
