Great Lakes Bay Community Resource Association Scholarship

Great Lakes Bay Community Resource Association (GLBCRA) was established in May 2023 by Archia and Otis Jackson, II. GLBCRA is dedicated to improving health outcomes for those who are underserved or who face barriers in access to health care. Additionally, Archia and Otis found a need to assist those who are underserved with furthering their education.

GLBCRA’s mission is to provide a forum for collective activities by a multitude of professional mentors for college students and interested high school students. GLBCRA investigates, defines and determines the health care needs of our underserved community and strives to implement changes that will make available accessible and acceptable community health care. The organization provides health education that supports health promotion, disease prevention and to empower individuals and families for self-care.

GLBCRA is committed to collaborative efforts with private and public agencies and organizations which share common concerns for improving the health status of all people. The organization is designed to assist student learners by providing hands-on experiences with the community aspect of nursing as well as other professions. Students gain experience by participating in health fairs by conducting cholesterol screenings, blood glucose, blood pressure and body mass index measurements, connecting with pharmacy staff, social workers, dental staff, and computer science. The organization also gives students opportunities to speak publicly on health topics in a seminar setting.

This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in a human medical-related field (nursing, medical school, psychology, dental, physical therapy, pharmacy, CMA, CNA, phlebotomy, computer science).
