Dr. Joe and Rosanne Gardner valued education and were proud to call Saginaw their home.
Established in 2012, the Joe H. and Rosanne S. Gardner Memorial Scholarship provides funding for students pursuing a career in the medical field.
Originally from Lansing, Dr. Joe Gardner received his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) and attended medical school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he specialized in urology. During WW II, Joe served as a Major and field surgeon in the United States Army. He met Registered Nurse, Rosanne Seifriss when he returned to Michigan and they married in 1948. Soon after, they relocated to Saginaw, establishing roots and beginning their life here. While their focus was always on their family, Joe and Rosanne loved the community of friends, colleagues and patients they built during 40 years of practicing medicine and many years as Saginaw residents.
Joe Gardner turned 101 years old in 2012. He ate healthy and exercised before it was trendy and believed that hard work and the right training will get one far in life.
This scholarship will honor the legacy of Joe and Rosanne Gardner by encouraging bright young people to pursue careers in medicine.
